Lamb Soup in Xinhua, Mango Ice in Yujing

Xinhua is a market town on the road east of Tainan, and its lamb soup shop opens before dawn. Continue on the same bus into the hills to Yujing, the centre of Taiwan's mango growing, for mango ice.

Getting there

Tainan city bus Green Trunk Line (綠幹線) runs from Tainan Station through Xinhua to Yujing; ride it back the same way.

On the way

  • Xinhua Old Street: A row of 1930s shophouse fronts on Zhongzheng Road, a short walk from the lamb soup.

    Fresh mangoes are in season from about June to August. From October 2026, check for a weekday closing.
