Hayashi Department Store
林百貨
Photo: Pbdragonwang, CC BY-SA 3.0A five-storey department store from 1932, Tainan's first building with a lift, topped by a rooftop shrine. It trades as a department store again, with cafés and exhibitions on local crafts.
History
It opened on 5 December 1932, and locals called it the five-storey building. American bombing damaged it at the end of the Second World War and it stood empty for years after its Japanese owner left. It reopened for tours in 2013 and as a department store in 2014. Holes from the bombing are still visible.
