Octagonal Tower (Bajiaolou)
八角樓
Photo: Foxy Who \(^∀^)/, CC BY-SA 3.0A Qing-era timber merchant's house in Yanshui's old centre, built on sugar money.
History
The Ye family, rich from the sugar trade, completed the house in 1841, with craftsmen, fir and bricks brought from mainland China. In 1895 the Japanese Prince Fushimi Sadanaru used it as his quarters and command post. Part of it was later lost to road works and wartime bombing, and it was returned to the Ye family after the war.
