History
The Qing envoy Shen Baozhen built it between 1874 and 1876, after the Japanese expedition to southern Taiwan in 1874, with French engineers designing a Western-style fort. Japan sold some of its guns during the Russo-Japanese War. One small rear-loading cannon is the only original artefact left. The other cannons are replicas added in 1975.
