Shaved ice or snow ice topped with chunks of ripe Irwin mango, often with mango ice cream, syrup or condensed milk. Some shops freeze mango juice into the ice itself.
How it is made
Ice is shaved into a bowl and covered with cut mango. You Jian Ice Shop in Yujing makes its ice block from mango juice with no added flavourings and adds three scoops of mango ice cream.
How to eat it
Summer is mango season and the peak time for mango ice. Out of season, Tai Cheng in Tainan switches to cantaloupe ice.
In Tainan
Yujing, inland in Tainan, is a mango-growing town, and its ice shops serve mango straight from the area.
