History
The VOC began the fort in 1624 and finished it in 1634. After the Dutch surrender in 1662 it became a residence of the Zheng family, then fell into ruin under the Qing. In 1868 a British shell blew up its arsenal. The Japanese levelled the inner ruins in 1897 and built the red-brick platform and customs officer's house that stand there now. The main Dutch remnant is about 65.8 metres of the south outer wall.
